Apple internships: how the interest postings work and how to get noticed

Apple's intern postings are not job openings. They are a way to put your resume in front of recruiters. Here is what that means for how you apply.

Apple hires most interns through standing “interest” postings for each field and degree level, such as Software Undergrad Engineering Internships, rather than through individual job openings. You submit your resume to the right track, Apple accepts submissions on an ongoing basis, and recruiters contact candidates when a team has a matching role. Internships and academic year co-ops are open to full time bachelor's, master's, and doctoral students.

That model changes how you should apply. With a normal posting, you compete against everyone who applied to one role. With Apple's, your resume joins a pool of candidates for a type of role, and Apple contacts people when a matching need comes up, so how specific your resume is matters more than ever. Everything below comes from Apple's careers site, checked on October 19, 2026.

How Apple's intern postings work

Apple's Software Undergrad Engineering Internships posting, first posted May 21, 2026, says plainly that it is not for a specific job opening, and that by submitting your resume you are expressing interest in being contacted about this type of role in the future. It also says Apple accepts applications to the posting on an ongoing basis. The button reads Submit Resume, not Apply.

Three practical consequences:

  1. There is no single deadline to beat, but earlier submissions are in the pool for more of the season's team searches.
  2. Your resume has to match a need that comes later. If it does not clearly name the skills a team is looking for, it is hard to match you to that team.
  3. Silence is normal. Being in the pool does not mean anyone has a role for you yet. Keep applying elsewhere, and use direct outreach to Apple engineers in the area you want.
At Apple, you are not competing for one posting. You are trying to be the obvious match when a team has a role to fill.

The internship tracks

Apple's US search with the Students: Internships filter returned 25 results on October 19, 2026. Most tracks are split by degree level:

FieldTracks listed
SoftwareSoftware Undergrad Engineering, Software Engineering Masters, Software PhD
Machine learning and AIUndergrad, Masters, PhD
HardwareHardware and Hardware Technologies, each at undergrad, masters, and PhD
Design and operationsProduct Design (undergrad, masters, PhD), Operations Manufacturing Design (undergrad, PhD)
Program managementEngineering Program Management, undergrad and masters
Business and otherBusiness, Marketing and Creative (undergrad, masters), Legal, MBA, and the Applied Data Solutions Program for summer 2027

The software undergrad posting describes the range of work interns might do: back end services behind features like Siri, Apple Music, and iCloud, operating system work, UI and UX, iOS and web tools, internal information systems, and information security.

Eligibility

Apple's students page says internships are open to students enrolled full time and pursuing a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree, in technical or nontechnical fields. The software undergrad track adds two requirements:

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in computer science, electrical or computer engineering, data science, design, information security, or a related field.
  • At the end of the internship, you must return to school, or the internship must be the last requirement for you to graduate.

Preferred qualifications include object oriented design, data structures and algorithms, one or more of a long list of languages including Swift, Java, C and C++, and Python, and experience with iOS or macOS development.

Writing a resume for an interest pool

  • Name your actual skills, precisely. Swift, SwiftUI, Core Data, Metal, Python, C++, React. If a team needs an iOS intern, iOS should be on the page. How to pick the right keywords.
  • Show Apple platform work if you have it. A shipped iOS or macOS app is the most directly relevant project you can list for many Apple software teams.
  • Keep the format clean. A single column PDF parses predictably. What breaks resume parsers.
  • Pick one track. Choose the one that fits your degree level and strongest skills rather than submitting to every track.
  • Update and resubmit when something big changes, such as a new project or a finished internship, so the version in the pool is your best one.

Other student roles at Apple

If an internship is not the right fit yet, Apple's students page lists two other paths:

  • Apple Support College Advisor: a part time technical support role at participating universities. Apple says no tech expertise is needed and it provides the training.
  • Apple Store and retail partner stores: part time and full time roles, with no tech experience required.

Both are real work experience that reads well on a resume, especially early in your degree. What else counts, and how to describe it, is in how to get an internship with no experience.

Common questions

How do I apply for an Apple internship?
Search Apple's jobs site with the Students: Internships filter and submit your resume to the track that fits your degree level and field, such as Software Undergrad Engineering Internships. Apple says these postings are not for a specific opening; submitting your resume expresses interest in being contacted about that type of role.
Are Apple's internship postings real jobs?
They are real routes into internships, but not single openings. Apple's software undergrad internship posting says it is not for a specific job opening and that applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. Recruiters use these submissions to contact candidates for specific roles.
Who can apply for an Apple internship?

The software undergrad posting also requires that you return to school after the internship, or that the internship is your last requirement to graduate.
Does Apple offer co-ops?
Yes. Apple's students page says you can join for a summer internship or a co-op during the academic year, doing hands on work on critical projects at an Apple campus.
What internship tracks does Apple have?
As of October 19, 2026, Apple's US internship search showed 25 results, including undergrad, master's, and PhD tracks in software engineering, hardware, hardware technologies, machine learning and AI, product design, engineering program management, operations manufacturing design, and business, marketing and creative, plus legal, MBA, and an Applied Data Solutions Program for summer 2027.
